miWisdom today… If something doesn’t work out as you planned the first time around, it usually means that you either forgot a piece of the puzzle, didn’t know that another piece of the puzzle existed, or you simply have a puzzle piece that just doesn’t fit. The worst thing anyone can do is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect to obtain a different result. This is known as The Definition of Insanity.
Take a good hard look at your situation (or the metaphor of the puzzle) and clarify whether you forgot a piece; in which case go over your plan or strategy once again to see what you might have overlooked. Secondly, if you didn’t know that there was another piece of the puzzle, than you will have to do further research or speak with others who will provide you with that piece or the answers you are looking for. And thirdly, if you have a puzzle piece that doesn’t seem to fit, make sure to double check to see if this is actually the right piece of the puzzle, or should it be discarded all together and possibly replaced with another piece?
- What is my challenge or problem?
- What exactly am I trying to do? What result do I seek to achieve?
- What piece of the puzzle may I have forgotten?
- What piece of the puzzle is missing here? What further research must I do? Whom could I speak with?
- What could I discard that doesn’t seem to fit with the bigger picture and may in fact be sabotaging my success?
